Re: They say you never use Meth just once...
I for one used meth for so many years because it brings me clarity of mind. It helps me concentrate. Something I have a very hard time doing without it.

I self medicated. I belive I have adhd and that was one way that I could concentrate on something for longer than 15 seconds.

Then before I knew it, I needed meth to wake up in the morning. If I didn't use I couldn't get out of bed. Never did I realize that it would only take a week of pain and torment to be able to laugh again.

Quiting dope is far from easy... And it's an ongoing battle. But all it takes is the will to do better for yourself. But that is hard to come by when the world feels like it is crashing down on you if you aren't high.

Why can't meth users smile? Because the only thing that tickles their brain is another hit of dope. Nothing else can compare to that next hit.

Real life things like playing with your kids, or going out to a movie are viewed as anoyances to a user. They are viewed as just another thing that's gettin in their way and delaying their next hit.

“THEY SAY YOU NEVER USE METH JUST ONCE”

A statement like that is intended to be used as a scare tactic. It is a great way to create hysteria and dishonesty. There is really no evidence to back it up. For every thousand who say it’s true, there may be fifty thousand, who try it once, never tell anyone, and then keep it secret. People don’t generally go around advertising errors in judgment made in the foolish days of youth.

But they are not the problem. The real problem is those who try it once, twice, thrice and then continue.

If you’d like some really good answers, May I strongly recommend the book, "Crystal Meth They Call It Ice" by Dr. Mary Holley. Less than twenty dollars. She is also the founder of "Mothers Against Meth."

how offten does a person have to use meth in one day?
and is it true with out the meth they could kill you, meaning my x travis , i did notice hed sleep all the time when he did not have it
also can it cause brain damageto the point of no return?????????????????????//////////
and thank you
Sfj Re: They say you never use Meth just once...
Some users may use once a week, others may use once a day, some may use four to ten times a day.

Yes, I suppose it is true that someone could kill you if they were being deprived of the drug. But killers and murderers sure don't have to be drug addicts. We see and hear news reports all the time of murders, but they are not all drug users, most of them aren't.

Many drug users are not violent people at all.

Sleeping all the time is pretty much a given when a meth addict doesn't have any more meth.

Brain damage can be anywhere from very mild to very severe.
Most people can recover if they quit early. After a few years of continuous use, the danger increases significantly.

I smiled. *smiles*

that how I would look "normal"

I knew people who said that meth addicts were evil and never smile.

I believe it's because you are clenching your jaw, grinding your teeth, trying to keep up with your racing thoughts and the world around you.

as stupid as it is..
you are like a prodigy on speed at first.

hyper focused, like a mad scientist.
....you don't see doc smiling alot in back to the future.

same thing.
you are really too busy (you think) to smile.

Use of methamphetamines can result in serious health conditions, including memory loss, aggression, violence, psychotic behavior, spreading sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and potential heart and neurological damage.
Jan,
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that can cause a number of long term illnesses. There is absolutely no possible way of predicting ones individual outcome in reference to long term brain damage!
There are many factors that seem to suggest, that prolonged use, as well as the amount that’s being consumed will play a significant role in the mental stability of the addict. Please also keep in reference that any prior mental illnesses will be a huge attribute in reference to irreversible brain damage. Many addicts use Methamphetamine as a way to self medicate, in return causing sever brain damage.
As for violence, Methamphetamine is ranked the most violent stimulant!
I have personally witnessed 3 murders that where meth related. Meaning the individual was high on Methamphetamine while taking another life. In conjunction to the absolute disregard to living life, I have witnessed a multitude of violent behaviors unsurpassed by any other drug.
I personally would not suggest ever assuming ones mental stability is stable while on methamphetamine. I was an addict for 17 years and during my duration I have witnessed more than my share. I now suffer from a number of mental and physical challenges. Mentally: Chronic anxiety disorders as well multiple personality conflicts our Meth related!

Please note this: I read this board often and it scares me that HIV is not a major issue here. I feel compelled to state it in this post for some reason! Methamphetamine caused sexual deviancy...I can not tell you how prevalent yet over looked HIV is in this arena. I seriously cringe every time I hear a story about Cheating and this is not brought up. Although it may be irrelevant to your original post I believe it is something you need to be highly aware of. Do not risk you health!!!! Please
It’s a true blessing that some addicts don’t have the violent memories of the damage that meth can do! They are blessed with a form of innocence!

Here is a few clips for you...on the violence of meth...as well as facts and statistics....You should educate yourself in the horrors of what this drug can do.
God Bless you on your road to freedom

Just a few quick facts...
The state medical examiner's office reports the number of death cases testing positive for meth have been higher than cocaine for the past three years. The office also reports meth is found in more cases of homicides, and motor vehicle accidents.

Impact on Crime5
        • Law enforcement agencies nationwide rank methamphetamine as one of the top drugs they battle today. Results of a recent survey of 500 sheriffs’ departments in 45 states found:
        - 90 percent of sheriffs interviewed reported increases in methamphetamine-related arrests in their counties over the past three years, packing jails across the country.
        - 70 percent said that robberies and burglaries have increased because of methamphetamine, as has domestic violence and identity theft.
        - 58 percent of all counties listed methamphetamine as their most serious drug problem, compared with only 19 percent for cocaine, 17 percent for marijuana and 3 percent for heroin.

Impact on Children and Social Services
        • 40 percent of child welfare officials surveyed report that methamphetamine has led to an increase in the number of children removed from homes.6
        • More than 15,000 children have been found at methamphetamine labs over the past five years.7
        • It has become harder to attract and keep foster parents because the children of methamphetamine users arrive with so many behavioral problems.

After two years on meth, an adult has depleted 25 percent, or 40 years’ worth, of dopamine, the chemical needed to feel happiness and enjoyment. The average adult loses only 7 percent every 10 years. (National Institute on Drug Abuse Notes – Vol. 17, April 1, 2002, By Patrick
Zickler)

As many as 90 percent of methamphetamine addicts who stop using will return to the drug versus much lower rates for other substances. (Governor’s Task Force on Methamphetamine Abuse, 2004)

I tried it once.
Didn't like it.
End of story.

Funny how it seems that the addicts say they feel, act, funciton, better while on meth; my kid included.

So what is it with this stuff that some try it and DON'T LIKE the high?
TnSkye Re: They say you never use Meth just once...
I only had a taste test, I didn't try it intentionally to get high. It scared the @#%$ out of me! I guess because I knew so much about it already. No more taste tests after that. If it was white powder, I let it be.

Re: They say you never use Meth just once...
I agree with Sfj. How many try it once or twice and never use again, and never tell anyone they tried it? Lots, I'll bet.

There are those of us, however, with the disease of addiction, who were addicted almost immediately. I was addicted very quickly. I LOVED it in the beginning. I also have a very addictive personality when it comes to almost anything. That is why I have to be very, very careful about ANYTHING I try...it doesn't even have to be drugs.

Also, if someone would have told me before my first try that I was going to be addicted after my first try, I would not have done it. I knew NOTHING, NOTHING about meth when I first tried it. That was like 1984, I think.

And yes, I definitely suffer from the long term effects of my 13 year addiction, even now, and I've been clean for over 9 and a half years.

Yes I definately think more clearly. And it definately helps me focus. For the first day at least. Sleep deprivation takes away any clarity of mind that I might have attained from the meth use. So after 1 day, I could stay focused, but couldn't think anymore. Doctors in the US can perscribe Methamphetamine to ADHD patients under the name DESOXYN.
