Question about reading hair drug test results
My son's father's Drug Test Result just came back the detection cut off for meth was 500 pg/mg his showed positive with 2300 pg/mg the test was for a 12 month detect period. Is there anyway to know on average how often or how much he was using? Does this mean he is an addict or just a casual user as he claims?

I don't know anything about the levels. However, there is no such thing as a casual user, from my experience.

Why would a casual user, who isn't really addicted, use a drug that could land them in jail, cause them to lose visitation, or kill them? Someone who says they are a casual user is just an addict in denial.

Was it a hair follicle test? I am just curious because I read they will only go back six months. I would like to know if that is wrong.

Hair Follicle and if the hair is taken from the body it can go back 12 months. I know he is an addict, I just can not get him to wake up and realize it, I am the bad guy keeping his son from him.

I'm glad you realize you aren't the bad guy. If and when your ex gets clean, he'll realize that too. Then, he'll be grateful his son had a mom that loved him so much and did what she had to do to protect him.

Thanks for the hair follicle info.

I used "casually"....every 3 hrs.

They said 12 months?
Generally from what I understand it is a month for every half inch or so.
I haven't read of any drug testing that can go for a year.
I'd say that is use for the past 3 months- maybe longer.  But not by much.  Call the testing facility and ask.

I agree with Vctry. Why would a casual user use a drug that carries a felony charge?  Plus denies him access to his child?
That in and of itself is enough to say Hey you got a problem here.

Test Information
The Amphetamine test is a one step competitive immunoassay that is used to screen for the presence of amphetamine in urine. It is a chromatographic absorbent device in which drug or drug metabolites in a sample compete with drug conjugate immobilized on a porous membrane for a limited number of binding sites. This test is a rapid, qualitative immunoassay for the detection of amphetamine in urine. The cutoff concentration for this test is 1000 ng/ml, as recommended by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and NIDA." The cutoff for GC-MS, which detects d-amphetamine and methamphetamine, is 500 ng/ml.

There is no way of knowing.

Re: Question about reading hair drug test results
Addict or casual user, doesn't matter. He still uses meth and meth will kill. In some people it only takes 1 time use to totally destroy them as a person and everything around them. Meth will continue to take hold of him if he doesn't stop it now. My 22 year old son Austin took his life this past August. Austin struggled with drug addiction for 10 years, the past 6 years being meth. His use increased and so did the destruction. He couldn't live with it and couldn't live without it. He thought to be a casual user at one time too. Please visit his website, light a candle, read his story. Let Austin's story give you strength and education.
