How much time does outpatient rehab require
per day? Sorry....very uneducated at this. How much of your day does an outpatient rehab take? Does a person have to take off work? Or is it something that one can do as they work?

It depends on the agency or facility. Some are very inclusive, some are very minimal. The one I work at has some of both. For example, there are some groups that only meet twice a week. The client has a choice of morning or evening meetings. But these are not the intensive early recovery groups. These are called "Aftercare." When I was a client at the VA, VA Substance Abuse it was called SADH, or "Substance Abuse day Hospital." Clients were very heavily involved in treatment all day long, the only thing is, they got to go home at night to sleep. But they were still hospital patients. Outpatient treatment is preferable to residential programs in many cases, especially if the client is not homeless. So those are the extremes, and its easy to find everything and anything in between.

I did a 21 day program that involved taking an anti depressant, checking in once a day for my blood pressure to be checked and that was it. It was a joke. They asked me questions like do you feel like hurting yourself or anyone else today? Do you feel like using? Have you used? No counseling, just a cuff and a few questions, give me my pill and then....NEXT......out the door I went to use. Crazy. I hope the programs have improved since then. Didn't do squat for me and I think that's one of the reasons I chose not to do a program.

To no more mething around, I'm sorry about your unsatisfactory experience with rehab. Unfortunately, places like that exist. They probably always will unless the public awareness improves greatly. But there are many thousands of excellent facilities also. One should really do some homework, checking things out, getting informed, ask questions and things like that before making important decisions. IMHO

I believe the outpatient treatment programs have greatly improved since 1994. Juliette, online are all sorts of links to outpatient treatment facilities and many of them explain a bit about their programs. Search meth treatment.

Thanks guys, this is awesome. I didn't realize there was so much to choose from. Thanks you for the links. I'll research them right now. What is one has Kaiser(sp) insurance, are they very helpful or is it better to try to seek help else where? God bless you,

I've heard some good reports about the Kaiser program. It is a minimal primary care program though. That means it is for people who are fairly able to keep things together. Things like housing, employment, and capable of routine daily activities. Minimal care in this sense means intensive training in substance abuse abstinence. (not case management) Primary means the first stages of withdrawal. |
