Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? I think there are a lot of people who feel depressed at Christmas... think of those who have family members who are terminally ill, or those who do not have enough to eat, or those who are looking forward to Christmas, hoping it will be different this time, just to have the abusive person in their life tear it down again. I hate this holiday, almost with a passion, because I feel the pain of so many people who cannot enjoy this holiday. I feel like this holiday is another cruel joke. But hey, I'll make the most of it. I'll probably hide and paint my room or something, listening to music.

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? My first reaction to your question was "Doesn't everyone?" Then, I remembered..... I didn't FEEL anything back then. That was what I loved so much about meth...I didn't have to FEEL anything. That was what I came to hate so much about meth...I couldn't FEEL anything. Now, I FEEL it all, and sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not good, but at least I'm FEELING!

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? IMO....no, the addict simply does more meth to tell him/her that everything is OK. I spent x-mas alone 3 yrs ago, with NO DOPE! It was thee most depressed/delusional/psychotic I've EVER been, 3 days sitting here watching the sun go up and down...knowing that my S.O's "ex" was at her place for the holidays. [can't say I blame her] "Depressed" doesn't even begin to describe it...

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? I'm going to answer your Post Question - straight ahead. Without anything between the lines. If the addict just got off, in other words, if he used recently, within the past couple hours, he will not be depressed. If he hasn't used in a day or more - he will be depressed. It is as simple as that when it comes to meth. The time of year and other factors have virtually nothing to do with it. Meth is extremely powerful when it comes to altering a person's mood. Much more powerful than most external factors. Meth is an anti-depressant. That's what it does better than anything else. If the person is a strung out speed freak, meaning that he is a regular user of meth, the only thing that will make him depressed is a lack of his medicine. In this case - methamphetamine. His central nervous system requires it in order to function anywhere near normal. Without it, he can only be depressed. |

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? Funny how the last 2 Christmases this loved one was happy now that this loved one is in early "recovery", this loved one is very very depressed but next Christmas in "recovery" this loved one plans on being MUCH less depressed. A gal in Alanon is having a Christmas day open house-pj's welcome. I'm going to need to be with others who understand. It made me cry to be invited. The addict I love seems to purposely sabotage every holiday. Still don't know why. luv

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? I was majorly depressed last year when my daughter was doing meth. Her boyfriend and his family were 'her new family'. Does anyone know how that feels to have a child [one who is adopted] tell you that you no longer matter in her life? This year I'm still depressed! She has been off of drugs for 10 months but is still with the same boyfriend and his family. She actually has them all off of drugs! BUT she wants to come home for the holidays to visit us but her boss won't let her off of work. She's working retail so you all know what that's like. At least I put up a tree this year. Did nothing last year. My hubby and I even went out of town so I wouldn't have to be in the house last Xmas. None of my children will be here for Xmas. My hubby and I are volunteering at a local church who provides 2600 meals to the homeless and shut ins.

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? What Causes Holiday Blues? Many factors can cause the “holiday blues”: stress, fatigue, unrealistic expectations, over-commercialization, financial constraints, and the inability to be with one’s family and friends. The demands of shopping, parties, family reunions and house guests also contribute to feelings of tension. People may also develop other stress responses such as headaches, excessive drinking, over-eating and difficulty sleeping. Even more people experience post-holiday let down after January 1. This can result from disappointments during the preceding months compounded by the excess fatigue and stress. www.nmha.org/go/informati...and-stress

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? For me the holidays have never been associated with me being depressed. In fact, it has always been a happy time for me and time for my family. This spending time with my family mattered to me so much I Actually would cut myself off from using during the holidays and deal with the withdrawals, cravings, and depression I would experience because I wanted to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family. This is going to be my first holidays in recovery and I absolutely love it. |

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? (((((((( Robin )))))))))))))), Sfj and Scorpio are on-target. Since I'm meth free and in recovery, I'm making the most of Christmas this year. Am I depressed? Just the opposite-I'm excited to have a clean and very new kind of Christmas this year. I avoid as much of and as many of the stressful things that Scorpio posted and always have. It's a time of giving and love. But Christmas for me can't be found in a store, a box, under gift-wrap, nor can it be bought with money. As a Christian, I celebrate the birth of a baby that grew up to save my life eternally. December 25 will be different this year in my home in many ways and for many reasons than Christmas eve and Christmas days before it...maybe I'll post about why later. I'm also the person who celebrates Christmas 365 or 366 days a year though-complete with giving, and trees, and decorations year round. That's another story I'll tell if anyone wants to know later also. My prayers to all who feel depressed and stressed and sad and lonely for this to yet be a good Christmas for you all.

Re: Does the Addict feel
more depressed at Christmas or holidays? all i cared about was drugs, hoped I'd get something that could eventually turn into a baggie of a mind altering substance. Don't regret too much, but I've only been in the game for 5 years. Dope rocks your world, i usually don't look back on what i was doing. |
