racial / gender
use of meth I have a question that may be unusual. I do not mean any disrespect to anyone, or mean to offend anyone and if I do please except my apology now. I have been to several different web sites and looked at pictures (before and after meth). I don't remember seeing a picture that was not of a Caucasian person, mostly female. Maybe I just haven't been to the right site. My question is is Meth use more prevalent in Caucasian females or just Caucasian race period? Does anyone know or has anyone noticed this? Just curious.

Yes I do think that meth addiction is more prominent in white males/females. But that seems to be changing and more of a diverse group of people are using now days. Meth does not discriminate by race. But culture does influance what drugs one might decide to try.

Re: racial / gender use of meth I saw a show a while ago that said the Meth is mainly a white drug and the plague for black people is smoking crack cocaine.

Re: racial / gender use of meth I think it depends on the focus of the research. Meth is HUGE in Southeast Asia. I don't remember what they call it, but it affects folks in urban populations. Meth is also huge in Tijuana, where I know a lot of ex-tweakers. Southern California is so diverse - there were oodles of Hispanic folks I have come across in the rooms who are trying to get over meth use. Many of the people I used with were people of color. Many Filipino folks too. So yeah, it may not be spread totally evenly, but it certainly appeals to every race. Websites may be located or basing their photos on local folks, so that is how the image of it being a predominately white person drug comes about.

Re: racial / gender use of meth Yup...meth is HUGE over here in Southeast Asia...we get the death penalty for it here in Singapore yet it can still be found quite easily...amongst other drugs too of course.. They ship meth by the tons in this area...and since we have no rural folks here its purely an urban drug... Whatever it is...I pray for all those who have never been exposed to meth to stay that way...forever.. Love, K |

Re: racial / gender use of meth Yup...unfortunately the death penalty applies not only to meth...most even to other drugs as well including weed!!! But they have some limits for each drug that you consume or possess before they hang you... I've heard of someone caught with 2 pills (unprescribed sleeping pills) and he did 9 months in prison... With such strict laws I'm sure the per capita in the US will be higher than over here... There you go...K |

Re: racial / gender use of meth I can't help but wonder? How much incentive is there in severe punishment? Not much huh? Meth problems won't be solved by punisment.

Re: racial / gender use of meth I live in New Zealand, population 4 million (LAST I READ) Meth use or commonly known in NZ as 'P' is prominent in our maori(indigenous people of NZ)/polynesian communties (both groups are non caucasion) Of course there are all races in NZ that use P.

Re: racial / gender use of meth I live in Washington State... Meth doesn't discriminate here. Red, Yellow, Black, White, and Brown.. they're all victims or potential victims of Meth!! Mucho sad!!

Re: racial / gender use of meth Well I don't know the facts or anything. But I know that the NA meetings I've been going to here in Mississippi has several black members and I have also noticed the biggest drug here seems to be crack. ~krod
