Does meth cause hallucinations?
My 16yr old son uses meth. Found him on the side of the road paranoid and freaking out. I know meth alone is horrible, but do they lace it with other drugs to cause the hallucinations?

Re: Does meth cause hallucinations?
Paranoid delusions and/or hallucinations are very common among meth users, especially if they have been up for an extended period of time. I would imagine that is probably the case with your son... I'm sorry for what brings you here. Stick around! Read & ask all the questions you want... KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Welcome, ladybugger1969! |

My son a 16 yr old addict
My son left our home approx. 9 days ago because we found pipes made out of light bulbs in his room. He was so pissed because we snooped that he just left. Yesterday a friend of his called me and told me were he was and that he had be on meth for 3 solid days. She also told me that he traded his expensive car stereo system for the drugs. Come to find out later last night he traded his whole car. He denies this to me. I spent the whole day looking for and calling several agencies for help. I was told soooo many times that it has to be voluntary. How can I get him to see that he needs the help?

Re: My son a 16 yr old addict
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but there's really not much you can do to make him 'see'. I wish there was a better answer... I really do. It doesn't surprise me that he would trade his stereo system or even his car for this drug-- it really can grab a hold of a person to the point that nothing else matters. Denial is a common pattern for someone who's using... addicts often refuse to admit to anything & will lie about everything; it comes with the territory. Preserving the ability to use is priority #1 for the user in denial. Meth eats away at a person's humanity & ability to think rationally. I'm surprised that there's nothing you can do (law-wise) since he's underage. I would think there would be SOMETHING! I know your heart's breaking right now & I am so sorry you are going through this. Good listeners & good advice is right here. PLEASE stick around!

Lady, Dont listen to anybody who told u it HAD to be volutarely! He's only 16 years old, he's a minor. You have to get him help, find him and put him in the hospital! this is very serious dont let him fool you. He's in trouble and you have to help him now..

Re: My son a 16 yr old addict
Many states require the seller of a vehicle to be at least 18 yrs. old, whoever holds the title [signed] owns the vehicle. Providing you have a title, you have every right in the world to reclaim you/his car, with a police escort if necessary.

16 yr old son I thought of getting the car back since the title was forged. I just dont want to endanger any one else in my family and I think if I went to the dealers house and retrieved the car there would be repercussions to my family for it.

Re: 16 yr old son
Seriously forget the car, get ur son out.

my 16 yr old son I was told by 2 different hospitals that they would see him in the ER and a doctor would make an evaluation, but if he doesn't show signs of suicidal tendencies they will just cut him loose. I even talked to the sheriffs and unless he has committed a crime they wont pick him up.

Re: My son a 16 yr old addict
You can also file for lost title if you don't have it in your possession. Is there a lien-holder? That would also make a HUGE difference. You can't sell or trade a vehicle without notifying the bank or other party that holds interest in it... at least not here. |

Can you file a missing persons report? Or is he back at home now?

Re: My son a 16 yr old addict
Possession of meth pipes is a crime. I'm not a proponent of the judicial system but it does save lives. My son Jason insists to this day that a year in the slammer, followed by intensive treatment, save his butt. He's 9 years meth free! Drug court and rehab are viable options, especially due to your sons age.

Re: My son a 16 yr old addict
It IS a crime to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Have him arrested and then he will HAVE to do some court ordered rehab and other stuff. This is what happened to my daughter. She ODd, was arrested and went through the 'Teen Court' program as it was her first non-violent offense. The outpatient rehab she is under has been very good. Oh...of course...some will say encouraging the law to step in will make your kid mistrust you etc... That's such crap! Your son is a minor. He's in a VERY bad way, (mine wasn't quite at that point yet). He doesn't trust you or respect you anyway. His mind is going in ten directions...none of which are doing him any good. You take a stand, he'll have no choice than to get help. Hopefully he'll wake up before it's too late. No...you CAN'T force someone to do what they don't really want, but he's a minor and you're the responsible party. At least you can give it a shot and hope for the best. He'll HATE you. He'll mistrust you. He'll make you out to be abusive. He'll tell you you screwed up his life and that's why he did drugs. So what!?! At least while he's still legally under your care you can give it your best shot! Hopefully it works. When he's an adult and out of your home is when you'll not be able to do anything. That is when you let go... But NOT NOW!!!

16 yr old son My son is at home for now. He's been sleeping. He stole his pipes back from me and smashed them into many pieces in front of me.

Re: 16 yr old son
Don't let your guard down. This ISN'T over just because he smashed pipes. My kid and her friend did the same when we thought they were just smoking weed. It's just a manipulative move to make you think that they feel bad. |
| sickandtired77 |
Re: 16 yr old son
Ditto what jacksmom said! The light bulb pipes are very easy to make & glass pipes can be purchased at many convenient stores. Here, they sell for only .39 apiece. Addiction to meth is a struggle that we, as non-users, have a difficult time understanding. |

Re: 16 yr old son
By the way, I tried as hard as hell to get mental health care for my daughter before I knew it was meth. We make too much $$$ to get treatment from county health care services, but since we're not on welfare either, we do not qualify. And any therapist we saw through our insurance did not help! The only reason Jacklyn is getting the care she needs now is because it had turned into a 'law enforcement' issue. If you contact the right people and tell them of your concerns, I'm sure they'll work with you. Every single person we've encountered...from cops to judges to probation officers...has been very kind and helpful. We, at this point, aren't having to pay for any of the treatment or counseling because she was referred by the 'Teen Court' program. And she never had to go to the hall, though friends that keep screwing up are in now! The law doesn't have to be mean and scary; sometimes it may be the only way. What's worse... Law, forced help, worse case scenario..the hall, Or a dead kid? |

Re: 16 yr old son
When he wakes up, have a long heart to heart talk with him. Find out as much as you can on Meth. Have a list of NA meetings available for him. Don't get the car back, let him see the loss. Give him rides to school, work, and meetings, nothing more. He's still young enough for you to get involved. Let him know that once he's 18, he won't have insurance for treatments and that he'll have to be financially responsible for his losses. Much luck, Chris

Re: Does meth cause hallucinations?
What? You don't think that meth alone is a bad enough drug? Sure it causes hallucinations, the more meth that you do, the more things that you see, and the more paranoid that you become. If you can afford it, put him into a drug treatment center immediately!!! If you can't, check with your local health center. He needs help NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Does meth cause hallucinations?
meth causes a drug induced psycosis in some people after a while, this is usually bought on by sleep depravation... whn i was using i heard things that were not there,i saw things that were not there and i spoke to people that didnt exist..all of that was a result of sleep depravation...

Re: Does meth cause hallucinations?
how can she help him? ....lock him in her attic? how? ...rehab will work till his feet hit the street. a few thousand dollars later. jail will turn him into a person who does'nt belong in the "normal world" plus, he'll prolly learn recipes, aggression, criminal mentality. there's nothing you can do. ...except know whats happening as it unfolds. he picks his path and we'll pray. only the addict can choose to come back to this world. |
